The Plastic
Problem

“Let everyone sweep in front of his own door, and the whole world will be clean.”

― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Since the 1940s, plastic has become one of the most useful materials in the world and it is heavily depended on by the majority of the population. The mass production of this material, coupled with its durability, has led to an excess of plastic pollution within our environments.

How does the type of congregation impact the amount of plastic pollution found on UMass Boston?

HYPOTHESIS:

The largest amount of plastics and microplastics will be found in the campus center lawn. This area has the largest amount of people coming and going throughout the year.
